Food Acceptance Policy
WeFreezeDryIt freeze dries a wide variety of foods for families, farms, pet owners and food businesses in Panama — from tropical fruit and complete meals to snacks, ingredients and product prototypes. Most projects are reviewed before processing to make sure the product is appropriate for freeze drying. This page explains what we commonly evaluate, what needs a closer look, and which foods tend not to freeze dry well.
Common Products We Can Evaluate
These products are frequently good candidates for freeze drying. Each project is still reviewed so we can recommend the right preparation and packaging.
- Fruits — mango, pineapple, papaya, banana, dragon fruit, berries and more
- Vegetables
- Herbs
- Prepared foods
- Cooked meals
- Candies and sweets
- Ingredients
- Pet-food products
- Food-product prototypes
Most projects are reviewed before processing to make sure the product is appropriate for freeze drying.
Products Requiring Additional Review
Some products are not automatically refused, but they need a more detailed conversation before we process them:
- Raw meats
- Poultry
- Seafood
- Raw eggs
- Dairy products
- Very high-fat foods
- Very high-sugar or syrup-heavy products
- Products with unusual ingredients
- Commercially manufactured products
- Products intended for resale
Suitability depends on composition, preparation, intended use and regulatory requirements. For example, a raw product may be fine to freeze dry but still needs to be cooked before eating, and a product intended for resale may have labeling or regulatory considerations beyond the freeze-drying process itself.
Foods That May Not Freeze Dry Well
Freeze drying removes water, not oils. Foods that are mostly fat or mostly sugar often do not dry properly or do not store well afterwards. These include:
- Pure oils
- Butter
- Very fatty products
- High-oil nut butters
- Honey and some concentrated syrups
Results depend on the specific product and formulation. Some foods that contain fat or sugar freeze dry very well — they may simply have a shorter recommended storage life. If you are unsure, ask us and we will give you an honest assessment. You can also browse our Can You Freeze Dry It? guide for more than 100 foods.
How to Start a Project
Send us a short description of your product through the quote form: what it is, whether it is raw or cooked, the approximate quantity or fresh weight, how you plan to use it and the packaging you would like. We will review it and reply with recommendations and a quote.
Before We Freeze Dry Your Product
For larger or unusual projects, we may ask a few questions first so we can recommend the right preparation, processing and packaging:
- Ingredients
- Whether the product is raw or cooked
- Approximate quantity
- Wet / fresh weight
- Intended use
- Desired packaging
- Personal consumption, product development or commercial resale
Food Acceptance FAQ
Do you accept every food?
No product is automatically accepted. Most projects are reviewed before processing to make sure the product is appropriate for freeze drying and that preparation, packaging and intended use are understood.
Can you freeze dry raw meat?
Technically, some raw meats can be freeze dried. However, freeze drying does not make raw meat ready to eat — it must still be cooked before consumption unless it was fully cooked beforehand. Raw meat projects are reviewed case by case.
Why can’t butter, oils or honey be freeze dried well?
Freeze drying removes water, not fat. Oils and butter are mostly fat, so there is little water to remove and the fat can go rancid over time. Honey and concentrated syrups hold on to moisture and tend to stay sticky instead of drying properly.
Can I freeze dry products that I plan to sell?
Often, yes — product development and commercial batches are a big part of what we do. These projects need additional review because resale may involve labeling, formulation and regulatory requirements in addition to freeze drying.
Freeze-drying results vary by food, formulation, preparation, processing conditions, packaging and storage. Figures shown on this website are general educational estimates and should not be interpreted as guaranteed laboratory results for every product. Food safety & our process
