Can You Freeze Dry Spinach?
Yes. Spinach freeze dries excellently and crumbles into a nutrient-rich powder or flakes.
Freeze Drying Suitability
This is an excellent freeze drying candidate. Spinach is watery and low in fat, so it dries fast and keeps its nutrients.
How to Prepare It
Wash, dry and spread leaves in a single layer. Arrange everything in a single, even layer on the trays so it dries uniformly.
Expected Texture
Very light and crumbly; easily crushed into flakes.
Storage
Once fully dry, seal it in Mylar bags with an oxygen absorber and keep it cool, dark and dry. Because it is low in fat, properly sealed it stays shelf-stable for a very long time.
Rehydration
Crumble into soups, smoothies and sauces, or use as a green powder.
Common Problems
Leaves are fragile when dry; store gently to avoid crushing prematurely.
