Can You Freeze Dry Cookies?
Yes, with conditions. Cookies freeze dry into a light crunch, but buttery ones store less long.
Freeze Drying Suitability
This can be freeze dried with a few conditions. Cookies are low in water, so drying mainly changes texture; the butter adds fat that limits storage.
How to Prepare It
Leave whole or halve; spread in a single layer. Arrange everything in a single, even layer on the trays so it dries uniformly.
Expected Texture
Extra light and crunchy.
Storage
Once fully dry, seal it in Mylar bags with an oxygen absorber and keep it cool, dark and dry. Because it is low in fat, properly sealed it stays shelf-stable for a very long time.
Rehydration
Eat dry as a novelty treat.
Common Problems
Butter-rich cookies store less long; simpler recipes keep better.
